Hitty~the most beloved of all
traveling dolls |
Hitty (whose real name is Mehitabel) was made famous by
author Rachel Field and her friend, artist Dorothy Lathrop. Their book "Hitty,
Her First Hundred Years" was a Newberry Award Winner in 1929. The basis of
the book is the adventures and travels of Hitty. That is why she is called a
"travel doll". Oh what an excited life she has led! Amazon.com has
reproduction books available. You can also read a sample of the book online
at their site.
The original doll was carved from ash wood. Made
with peg leg and arm joints, and painted with care. She measures a
dainty 6 1/4-inches. Many believe the original doll was created in the
1860's. The "real" Hitty lives in the Stockbridge Library Museum in
Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Hitty is available for public viewing. No
need to call ahead, she loves company!

I am now accepting orders for my
original
designs for Hitty. Each item is hand made from quality fabrics.
These photos represent the basic item.
Because these are crazy quilted and hand embellished (no fancy-smancy
embroidery machine is used), each item will be slightly different due to
being handmade and fabric available. I work from my personal scrap stash.
Fabrics will include Civil War Reproductions, Thimbleberries, Moda,
shirtings. No solids or muslins. Only quilt shop quality 100% cottons. If you
have any questions, please just ask! I will work with you on color request
when possible. Thank you for appreciating the uniqueness and quality of your
one-of-a-kind creation.
Shipping is based on availability.
Please allow up to 2 weeks minimum.

Perfect for your
purse or luggage!
Hitty on the
go? Let her travel in style and safety. Take your treasure with you knowing
she will not be damaged in this precious carrier. Measures approx. 4 x
7 1/2-inches. Pieced and hand embroidered in the crazy quilt method
that I love to do. Your Hitty will be well protected and secure in her
travels. A reinforced snap closes the top. The back is quilted. (My Hitty
Arietty and
her lovely outfit by Nancy Hauk is not included.)
Need
a carrier for your Bitty Hitty? The same style as the large, but
measures approximately 4 x 6-inches. |

$19.95 |
Completely hand embroidered. There is even a
touch of blue in her eyes. Muted pastell flowers with sage green
accent the corners. Hitty's lettering and dress are a dark barn red.
Her "coral" necklace is a deep pink. The wall hanging measures 6 x
9-inches. I have also hand quilted around the design. The center panel
is a high thread count muslin. Two small plastic bone rings are
securely attached to the back to allow for easy hanging.
I thought this would be perfect to hang near your
Hitty's house or display cabinet. |

$19.95 |
A special quilt for a special doll.
Measuring 7 1/2 x 7 /12-inches. Completely embellished in the
traditional crazy quilt fashion! Binding is hand stitched with mitered
corners. I did not use batting so the quilt would drape nicely
over the bed. |
